Mo Salah's Liverpool future could have a big impact at Bristol City in January
Bristol City will have good reason to be keeping a close eye on Mohamed Salah’s dramatic potential exit from Liverpool ahead of the January transfer window.
It was reported last month that the Reds are among the clubs eyeing a potential deal for Antoine Semenyo amid the revelation that he has a £65 million release clause in his Bournemouth contract.
It has also been revealed that the Robins have a sell-on clause worth 20 per cent of the profit the Cherries make from any possible Semenyo sale, having sold him to the Premier League during the 2023 January transfer window.
The Ghana international made the switch from Ashton Gate to the Premier League in a deal worth a reported £10 million, meaning the Championship side could net a handsome figure of £11 million if he was sold for his release clause fee.
Semenyo has gone from strength to strength since leaving Bristol City, cementing himself as one of the top flight’s most exciting talents under Andoni Iraola, contributing six goals and three assists from 14 league appearances so far this season.

Salah’s own future at Liverpool is now up in the air following his explosive comments after the team’s 3-3 draw away to Elland Road last weekend.
Leeds United’s stoppage time equaliser means Arne Slot’s side have won just two of their last 10 league games.
Salah was left out of the starting lineup for the most recent three fixtures in the Premier League, which prompted him to criticise the manager and the club for throwing him under the bus, leading to speculation regarding a January exit.
If the Egyptian’s time at Anfield does come to a spectacular end midway through the campaign, then Liverpool could turn to Semenyo as an option to replace him.
The forward wouldn’t be a like-for-like replacement, and frankly there is no such thing when looking to take over for such a legendary figure in the game.
However, he could be a good fit for Liverpool as he is capable of playing on either flank and has shown he can contribute a strong attacking threat from the right, as well as the left.
He could also be a better fit to play alongside the likes of Florian Wirtz or Alexander Isak, who have struggled to gel with Salah since arriving at the Premier League side this summer for astronomical sums.
For £65 million, Semenyo could also prove a more affordable option — at least relative to the cost of their summer additions — that provides immediate Premier League experience for Liverpool at a time when they are clearly struggling in attack.

Liverpool signing Semenyo would be a welcome development at Bristol City, where an £11 million windfall could really help Gerhard Struber’s side in the second half of the campaign.
The January transfer window could prove an important part of the season, as it offers clubs the opportunity to strengthen their squad.
Struber’s team are aiming for another top six finish after the Robins earned a play-off place in the previous campaign under Liam Manning.
Having an extra £11 million available could allow for one or two extra signings, which could make a big difference in that pursuit if they can identify the right targets.
The club deserves a lot of praise for negotiating such a potentially lucrative clause into the deal for Semenyo, and bringing the total sum received for his sale to £21 million would be a much fairer reflection of his talent.
