Joao Felix scored 11 minutes into his AC Milan debut last night just 2 days after joining from Chelsea on loan.

We’re not quite sure what Mats Hummels was doing, but it’s a lovely finish and the perfect start for Joao in Serie A.

We said on the night of the deal that it was one we could see working out. That team and that league might just suit him. He’s not a natural match with manager Sergio Conceicao, but perhaps that’s a good thing, and perhaps he can be whipped into shape a little by his countryman.

The talent has always been there – perhaps a team which has a love of a crafty number 10 and a league with a little more space is just what he needs.

Our stance has remained consistent – buying Felix at all was a huge mistake to begin with. We had the chance to check him out with a very expensive loan a couple of years ago, and he didn’t do much to impress. The idea we were signing him just to facilitate the sale of Conor Gallagher (a far more useful player) to Atletico Madrid was just mind boggling.

But that bad deal is done, and it’s quickly been revealed to be just that by the fact that Felix has been loaned out within 6 months. Our best hope now is that he scores more goals like this and we have plenty of big juicy offers we can use to move him on without too much of a loss.

Let’s hope those in charge aren’t so brainless as to then go back and bring him in a THIRD time at some point down the line…
