An explanation for Real Madrid star Federico Valverde’s most recent goal celebration has been provided, by a member of the club’s backroom staff.

Midfielder Valverde of course took his place front and centre in the headlines across Spain late on Friday night.

This came after the Uruguayan notched a crucial goal in the colours of Real Madrid.

With Los Blancos locked at a goal apiece with Celta Vigo deep into injury time, Valverde lashed home a deflected strike from the edge of the area, to guide Álvaro Arbeloa’s troops to a much-needed three-point haul.

The goal, as expected, sparked chaotic celebrations amongst the visitors’ players, staff and fans.

None celebrated more passionately than the scorer himself, though, Valverde looking as though a weight had been lifted from his shoulders.

And yet, amid the chaos, the all-action midfielder still managed to showcase his class and respect.

After Valverde was spotted making a beeline for Antonio Pintus on the touchline, the Real Madrid fitness coach took to social media, to provide an explanation for the warm embrace between the pair:

“Fede Valverde came to hug me after the goal for my mother’s passing… Fede, you are a real gentleman and a fantastic player.”
