Manchester United focused heavily on attacking additions last year, as they brought in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.
Midfield reinforcements are now emerging as a top priority for United this summer.
The Red Devils have been linked with several names, but Elliot Anderson is reportedly one of their key targets.
The Nottingham Forest star is highly rated for his energy, versatility and technical ability. His key strengths are his dribbling skills, passing ability and defensive actions.
Despite Forest’s struggles in the Premier League, Anderson has enjoyed an impressive season, starting all 30 games and scoring two goals.
United would love to secure a move for the 23-year-old, but with Manchester City also firmly in the race, a deal is not expected to be easy for them.
Forest are expected to demand a hefty fee for their star performer, who is contracted with the club until 2029.
United may decide to meet their valuation, but the player’s salary demands could also be an issue.
According to Samuel Luckhurst, City are currently leading the transfer race for Anderson.
It is reportedly doubtful whether United would compete with their rivals to match the midfielder’s salary demand.
The Red Devils made the mistake of offering players big wages in the past.
But they have changed their transfer policy under Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos regime.
Casemiro is a big example who was signed on a contract worth £400,000-per-week.
While the Brazilian has been impressive this season, the club’s hierarchy plan to stick with their original decision and let him leave as a free agent this summer.
