Why West Ham star Mateus Fernandes has rejected Real Madrid | OneFootball

West Ham United star Mateus Fernandes is understood to have ruled out a potential summer move to Spain with Real Madrid.

This comes with the Portuguese instead keen to take his talents across London, to Tottenham Hotspur.

The name of midfielder Fernandes of course emerged as a prominent one in the Spanish media over recent weeks. Amid an ongoing search for reinforcements in the middle of the park, the Real Madrid brass were said to have circled the name of the 21-year-old in red.

As alluded to above, however, if the latest word doing the rounds this week is anything to go by, then Fernandes appears to have set his sights elsewhere.

As per a report from Diario AS:

‘The deal for Mateus Fernandes has been ruled out because the 21-year-old prefers to go to Tottenham.’

The youngster’s reasoning? A belief that he will be afforded greater opportunity to develop in England’s capital than its Spanish equivalent over the coming seasons.
