According to The Athletic, the Tractor Boys have submitted an offer in the region of £35 million for Philogene and Jacob Greaves.

However, the Suffolk outfit face competition from the likes of West Ham, Everton and Barcelona in the race for the winger.

In a key recent development, the BBC has reported that Town are optimistic they can get a deal done and are in advanced talks, with the player keen on the move.

Philogene earned a lot of plaudits last season for his performances for the Tigers, contributing 12 goals and six assists as the team fought for Premier League promotion.

A seventh place finish consigned the Yorkshire outfit to another year in the Championship, but Philogene may yet still earn his place in the top flight anyway if a transfer materialises.

Palmer has praised Philogene’s performances for Hull last season, and expects him to pursue a move that will earn him regular game time at a new club.

The 58-year-old has claimed that all three Premier League sides vying for his signature would be an exciting move for the player, but predicts Ipswich to win out in the end.

“Jaden Philogene, 22-years-old, wide player, has been a sensation for Hull City this season, and that has culminated in the likes of Everton, Ipswich, Crystal Palace and Barcelona all looking at trying to sign him,” Palmer told Football League World.

“He had a fantastic season for Hull, even though they just missed out on the play-offs, 12 goals and six assists in 32 league appearances.

“Hull City will not panic about the situation, they’ve signed him, he has two years remaining on his contract and he has an option for another season, so it’ll be interesting to see where he ends up.

“We’re talking about the likes of £15 or 16 million.

“Everton took Jack Harrison back out on loan, they didn’t have to fork out a loan fee, they’ve probably taken on the full amount of his salary, so they can still be in the hunt to sign somebody like Philogene on a full-time basis.

“Obviously he’s playing regular football at Hull, so he wouldn’t want to go anywhere and not play.

“So, I would think that if Everton are paying £15 million for him, you would think that he’s going to be playing regularly.

“But newcomers to the Premier League, Ipswich, if they splash out £16, 17 million for him, you’d think that he'd go on and play a lot of football.

“Palace are a really good club, as we’ve seen in the Euros with so many of Palace’s players featuring at the Euros.

“Any of those three clubs for me, Barcelona I don’t think is going to happen.

“I don’t think — they’re struggling financially — that they could afford him anyhow, although that would be a dream move.

“But anywhere, Everton, Ipswich, Palace, would be a great move for him.

“I think that possibly Ipswich might win the race for his signature.”

Jaden Philogene's transfer cost

Philogene joined Hull last summer from Aston Villa after he spent the prior campaign on loan at QPR.

The deal cost a reported £5 million, and it also included a £15 million buy-back clause that only becomes active if Hull and Villa are in the same division.

It remains to be seen what kind of fee can convince the Tigers to cash in, with Ipswich stepping up their interest.

However, it has been claimed that Philogene’s preference would be to remain in England despite Barcelona’s interest.

Ipswich move for Philogene is a statement of their intent

Ipswich have already pulled the trigger on a big money move for Omari Hutchinson from Chelsea.

Another move of this stature for Philogene, with Greaves potentially joining as well, shows their ambition now that they’re back in the Premier League.

Winning the race to his signature would be a good move for Kieran McKenna’s side, and would be a show of faith in their project given the interest from elsewhere.

Philogene will have competition for game time at Portman Road, but he should still feature regularly if he makes that switch.
