Pedrinho has named Bruno Lazaroni interim head coach at Vasco after Fernando Diniz’s dismissal on Sunday, easing pressure on Felipe Loureiro. According to Globo.com, Lazaroni will lead the team until a new manager arrives.

The last two vacancies had gone to Felipe on an interim basis. His most recent spell, between Fábio Carille’s exit and Diniz’s arrival, brought four games, one draw and three straight defeats.

Beyond an 8% return, he left that stint under heavy scrutiny. He also said he did not like centre-back Capasso and that the defender was out of the club’s plans.

After the 4-1 loss to Puerto Cabello in last year’s Copa Sudamericana group stage, he pinned too much on individual errors and player attitude, prompting criticism for not sharing responsibility.

The downturn put his technical director role under review. Amid a wider shake-up that saw director of football Marcelo Sant’ana sacked, Pedrinho kept him after internal meetings, valuing his academy assessments reflected in recent under-17 and under-20 successes.

Lazaroni, part of Vasco’s staff since last year, is the son of former coach Sebastião Lazaroni. He has been an assistant at Botafogo, Athletico-PR, Coritiba and Cuiabá, and played for the club from 2002 to 2004. At Botafogo he was head coach for 27 days in 2020, the second-shortest stint in the points era, before reverting to assistant and later moving to Athletico-PR.
