Wolfsburg close in on loan deal for another Danish talent

Erdal Bozkurt reports that VfL Wolfsburg are set to acquire Danish right back Elias Jelert on loan from Galatasaray. Wolfsburg’s Danish managing director Peter Christiansen has apparently recruited another one of his former FC Copenhagen players to the Bundesliga club. The Turkish journalist claims that Wolfsburg have secured a purchase option for the €7m-valued fullback.

Rumors linking Jelert with a move to Germany’s green company team have been corroborated by other Turkish journalists. Other former FC Copenhagen players to move to the northern Autostadt under Christiansen include defender Denis Vavro and keeper Kamil Grabara, though Grabara was technically brought in prior to Christiansen’s tenure.

Christiansen did bring in Danish compatriots Andreas Skov Olsen and Mads Roerslev during the January 2025 transfer window. Roerslev has since returned to parent club Brentford. It does appear that – with striker Jonas Wind still lobbying for an exit – there will be at least one other Dane departing die Wölfe. Jelert’s arrival will nevertheless rectify that.

Jelert – a thrice-capped Danish international – scored one goal in 35 appearances across all competitions for the Süper Lig Champions last season after arriving on a €9m transfer. Jelert’s arrival likely heralds a permanent move back to the left-hand-side for Jelert’s fellow Danish international Joakim Maehle.

Both Jelert and Maehle can play as fullbacks, wingbacks, or even higher up wide in midfield.
