Kicker and the Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung report that VfL Wolfsburg are set to pocket €6m to €7m on Vaclav Cerny’s permanent sale to Beşiktaş Istanbul. The Turkish club itself has essentially “pre-welcomed” Cerny in a social media post. The deal that sees the Czech international depart the Bundesliga could nevertheless still fall through.
Cerny was one of the undisputed “winners” emerging from Wolfsburg’s training camp and it surprised many to learn that the Lower Saxon Autostädter wished to sell him. The 27-year-old returned from a recent loan stint with Rangers in fine form and appeared well-poised to fight for a place in new head coach Paul Simonis’ starting XI.
Cerny appeared in all three of Wolfsburg’s competitive fixtures under Simonis, scoring a goal in the opening round cup tie and playing the entire second half of Sunday’s league match against Mainz. In the final analysis, it appears as if Beşiktaş offered the 26-times-capped international better sporting prospects.
Contrary to initial reports, Wolfsburg have had an exceptionally busy transfer deadline day. While no high profile names such as Jonas Wind or Mohamed Amoura were sold, and none of the larger names linked with the club were signed, there’s been a flurry of late activity.
Defender David Odogu was sold to AC Milan for €10m. The German Wolves also got two new loan signings – Jenson Seelt and Adam Daghim – over the line just before the German transfer deadline at 20:00 CET.
