Manchester United climbed to sixth in the Premier League with a confident win over a struggling Wolves side.
Bruno Fernandes, Bryan Mbeumo and Mason Mount were all on the scoresheet, lifting United onto level points with Chelsea as the race for European places begins to tighten.
The Red Devils started brightly, dominating both possession and chances throughout the first half.
They nearly took an early lead when Diogo Dalot tested Johnson with a powerful effort, only to be denied by an excellent save.
Ruben Amorim’s side produced 14 shots before the break, carving out three significant opportunities in the buildup to Fernandes’ opener.
Efforts from Mount, Casemiro and Ayden Heaven all came close, and United could easily have been three goals ahead within the opening 20 minutes.
The breakthrough came when Fernandes capitalised on a loose ball, recovering quickly after slipping while connecting with a pass from teammate Matheus Cunha to steer it into the net.
Wolves made a slow start but eventually grew into the half, with chances for Ladislav Krejci, Andre and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde all blocked.
Bellegarde finally found a way through in stoppage time, pulling his side level just before the interval.
United responded swiftly after the restart. Mbeumo restored their lead 15 minutes into the second half, punishing Wolves for their lapse just before half-time.
Ten minutes later, Mount extended the advantage, meeting a superb cross from Fernandes with a composed finish to give United control of the match.
Their pressure continued, and United were awarded a penalty after Yerson Mosquera handled the ball inside the box. Fernandes converted confidently for his second of the evening and United’s fourth, effectively sealing the victory.
United now turn their attention to Monday night’s home fixture against Bournemouth, aiming to build on the momentum from this performance.
Wolves, meanwhile, remain rooted to the bottom of the table and are still searching for their first win of the campaign. Their next challenge is a daunting trip to league leaders Arsenal, who will be looking to respond after their 2–1 defeat to Aston Villa.
