Three-time promotion winner Dan Neil is due to leave Sunderland at the end of the season when his contract expires, with Wolves and Coventry City reportedly considering moves ahead of the summer window.
Football League World reports that Wolves are tracking the midfielder as they prepare for life back in the Championship. Ipswich Town are also interested in keeping him on a permanent basis following his loan at Portman Road.
Neil, born in South Shields and raised as a Sunderland supporter, progressed through the Black Cats’ academy after time with Hebburn Town Juniors.
He made his senior debut in the EFL Trophy in November 2018 as a late substitute, then scored his first professional goal in September 2021 in a 2-1 win over Accrington Stanley.
That breakthrough campaign brought the EFL Young Player of the Month award for December 2021 and transfer links with Burnley and Aston Villa, though he stayed on Wearside.
The 24-year-old joined Ipswich on loan in January 2026 and helped them win promotion back to the Premier League, adding to a career that also includes Sunderland’s rise from League One to the top flight.
