Wolves supporters have voiced shock after the club sacked head coach Rob Edwards, with Cesar Peixoto set to be appointed as his successor.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, Edwards was told on Thursday morning while on holiday abroad, ending his Molineux tenure days after the signings of Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez.
Edwards, 43, who led Luton Town to Premier League promotion, was hired in November with relegation already looking likely. He had played a significant role in Wolves’ summer plans, including Trippier’s arrival.
Brazilian midfielder Andre publicly praised Edwards when agreeing a new contract, and the pair were understood to have built a strong rapport. Edwards also appeared in Jimenez’s surprise return video on Tuesday night.
Many fans questioned the timing, arguing he merited a few Championship games and querying the choice of a coach without experience of the division.
Others backed the call, citing a need for a reset and pointing to poor results, while hoping Peixoto can emulate Nuno Espirito Santo’s success. Peixoto, 46, has coached only within Portugal’s league system.
