Wolves have received an unexpected AFCON lift, with Nigeria leaving Tolu Arokodare out of their final squad. According to Molineux.news, the omission reduces the club’s likely tournament absences after an initial expectation that as many as five players could travel.
AFCON call-ups typically mean at least three matches missed, and more if nations progress beyond the group stage. Final lists are now being confirmed as the competition approaches.
Zimbabwe have named Tawanda Chirewa, while Marshall Munetsi misses out because of injury. Emmanuel Agbadou has also been confirmed for his country.
Arokodare, 25, was on Nigeria’s provisional list but did not make the final cut. His omission follows Jackson Tchatchoua being left out by his national team, leaving only Chirewa and Agbadou set to depart.
Remaining in England over December and January gives Arokodare a chance to push for Wolves’ starting centre-forward role. The poor form of Jorgen Strand Larsen could open that door, and while Arokodare may be disappointed to miss AFCON, it offers an opportunity to cement his place. Rob Edwards will welcome having both striking options available through the festive programme as Wolves search for goals.
