Following confirmation of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ relegation to the EFL Championship, Olympique de Marseille are now certain to welcome England international Angel Gomes (25) back to the club in the summer, as per L’Équipe.

Gomes joined Marseille last summer, following the expiry of his contract at Lille OSC. However, he struggled to settle at OM, and prior to his loan move to Wolves in January, he had found himself on the outskirts of the set-up under Roberto De Zerbi.

Since moving to England, Gomes has made nine appearances in the Premier League, but he will not make the drop to the Championship. Had Wolves remained in the top-flight, the Englishman’s move to Molineux would have been made permanent.

As it is, he will return to Marseille at the end of the season. Despite being under contract until 2028, he isn’t expected to remain at the Vélodrome. A transfer away from OM looks probable, although with uncertainty surrounding the future of Habib Beye, that could change.
