Wolverhampton Wanderers should join Burnley in the race for former Middlesbrough striker Emmanuel Latte Lath

Wolverhampton Wanderers' pre-season has been far from uneventful, as new Portuguese boss Cesar Peixoto looks to stamp his authority on the Black Country outfit in more ways than one.

Indeed, following their disappointing relegation from the Premier League, Wolves will be playing Championship football for the first time in over eight years.

It was largely expected that Welsh boss Rob Edwards would lead the club into the second tier following his appointment from Middlesbrough in November 2025, as the decision to replace the former Watford and Luton Town boss with relatively unknown Gil Vicente head coach Cesar Peixoto surprised many.

By the time of the 46-year-old’s arrival, both Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez had already signed on the dotted line, as Comoros international Rafiki Said became the first addition at Molineux under his watch for around £7.7 million.

Their pursuit of former Aston Villa forward Lewis Dobbin fell flat after Southampton pipped them to the post, and with Toluwase Arokodare on his way to Ajax, Peixoto will surely be eyeing more attacking targets this summer, and ought to join Burnley in the race for a former Championship goal machine.

Wolves scored the least amount of goals in the Premier League last season with 27, 11 fewer than the next worst Burnley on 38, as a total revamp in the final third is a necessity for the Old Gold this summer.

The Black Country outfit are due to play Burnley again next season after the pair's relegation to the Championship, with the Clarets being even less active than Wolves so far in the window, with zero additions.

However, following the appointment of Nicky Hayen at Turf Moor over two weeks ago, the incoming Belgian head coach is looking to change that, as according to Alan Nixon's Patreon, Burnley have submitted a bid for former Middlesbrough hitman Emmanuel Latte Lath, as Wolves should join the hunt.

Latte Lath, 27, spent the bulk of his youth and early career playing in the lower reaches of Italy with the likes of Pescara, Imolese, Pro Patria, and SPAL, each on loan from his parent club Atalanta, with whom he would be loaned out on eight separate occasions.

His final loan spell came with St Gallen in Switzerland, where he scored 14 and assisted four in 31 league games, eventually securing a move to England with Middlesbrough in the summer of 2023 under Michael Carrick.

On Teesside, the Ivorian would continue to excel, hitting 16 goals and grabbing one assist in 30 league games during his first year at the club, and followed that up with 11 goals and three assists in 29 league during the first half of his second campaign at the Riverside, where he would break the MLS transfer record in a move to Atlanta United in January 2025 for £22.5 million.

Since his move to the United States, Latte Lath has struggled to hit the form he once displayed on Teesside, with just 11 goals and four assists in 48 games, as he was made exempt from Atlanta's squad to face Charlotte recently ahead of a move elsewhere.

Burnley are interested, but Wolves must jump them in the queue, with the Clarets having offered a loan deal with an obligation to buy.

During the 2023/24 campaign with Middlesbrough, as per FotMob, Latte Lath scored 16 from an expected goal return of 11.72, displaying his clinical nature in front of goal, whilst his 135 touches in the opposition box and 20 dribbles emphasise his ability to get on the ball in good areas, with the confidence to create shooting angles for himself or teammates.

Capable of playing anywhere across the frontline but best as an out-and-out striker, Latte Lath would provide a more energetic alternative to Jimenez up top, and a more physical alternative to Adam Armstrong as well.

Having struggled in the MLS, Latte Lath has shown what he is capable of at Championship level previously, as Wolves would be remiss to not consider his addition this summer.

Heading into next season, Wolves' main objective will be promotion, and nothing less.

With parachute payments at their disposal, as well as the bulk of their squad that played in the Premier League last season expected to stay, the Old Gold will be among the favourites for the title next campaign.

Peixoto will be keen to make more additions between now and the end of the window, however, with the Portuguese head coach likely eager to stamp his authority on the Wolves squad.

Latte Lath would be an incredible addition despite his recent struggles in MLS, and simply must be considered as a serious option amid Burnley's interest.
