Wolves plan to give Pedro Lima a place in their Championship squad, providing cover and competition for new right-back Kieran Trippier amid interest from Brazil.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, Atletico Mineiro want the 19-year-old on a season loan, potentially with an option to buy, but any approach is likely to be rebuffed.
Lima has made just 16 appearances since a move from Sport Recife around £8.5 million two years ago, having spent the first half of last season at Porto without a first-team outing. There remains confidence he can still adapt to English football, and Trippier’s experience is seen as beneficial to his development.
New head coach Cesar Peixoto will assess Lima in pre-season as he shapes a squad aiming for a quick Premier League return. After Trippier’s arrival, right-back is not viewed as a priority area.
A major rebuild is anticipated, with a new number one goalkeeper high on the agenda as Jose Sa and Sam Johnstone are likely to depart. Trabzonspor are the latest to show interest in Sa, though his future is unlikely to be resolved until after the World Cup.
Wolves have also brought forward their friendly with Real Sociedad by 72 hours, from Tuesday, July 28 to Saturday, July 25. Aston Villa were initially slated to face Sociedad on the latter date, but the fixtures have been switched following changes to the Premier League club’s Asia tour.
Wolves are set to start pre-season at Maidenhead United on Wednesday, July 22, then visit SC Heerenveen on Saturday, August 1, a week before the Carabao Cup begins. Players not at the World Cup will return for pre-season in early July.
