Wolves’ grim Premier League campaign has already produced two unwanted club records, and they sit bottom after 16 games, 14 points from safety with just two points.

Arsenal dished out the latest defeat at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, two own goals compounding Wolves’ misery against the league leaders. According to ExpressAndStar.com, the slide shows no sign of relenting.

They have lost nine league matches in a row, the worst sequence in their history. The previous longest run was seven, set in 1964, 1985 and 2012.

Each of those seasons ended in relegation. Club icon Stan Cullis was sacked after 16 years, despite ending a winless start with a 4-3 win over West Ham United in his final game.

After his dismissal, the team lost all seven under caretakers Joe Gardiner and Bill Shorthouse between 19 September and 31 October, including a 5-1 defeat by West Brom. Andy Beattie took interim charge at the start of November and halted the slide with back-to-back wins over Stoke City and Tottenham Hotspur.
