Wolves officials are in Mexico to try to seal a deal to re-sign 35-year-old Raul Jimenez this week.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, they have flown out to meet the free agent while he prepares with his national team for the World Cup, with Mexico hosting South Africa in Thursday's opener.

He will leave Fulham when his contract expires, and Championship Wolves are set to beat rival interest, including from MLS sides.

After the 1-1 draw between Wolves and Fulham in last season's final Molineux game, Jimenez said a return was a possibility in a post-match interview.

Early talks followed and have advanced, with Wolves closing in on an agreement. The travelling staff aim to complete the paperwork and medical during the visit.

Jimenez scored 57 goals and made 23 assists in 166 Wolves appearances from 2018 to 2023, then joined Fulham for £5.5million.

He spearheaded Nuno Espirito Santo's side to back-to-back seventh-place finishes, a Europa League quarter-final and an FA Cup semi-final. He hit 13 Premier League goals in his first season, initially on loan from Benfica before a club-record £30million move, then 17 in his second.

He fractured his skull in a clash of heads with Arsenal's David Luiz in November 2020, then returned wearing a headguard. At Fulham he scored 31 goals and recorded six assists in 115 games.
