Joao Gomes is expected to have a medical on Friday ahead of a 38 million move from Wolves to Aston Villa.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, the Brazilian left Wolves’ training camp in Portugal on Thursday to return to the UK after the clubs agreed a deal that has frustrated some Wolves supporters, who view the fee as relatively low.
A summer exit was widely expected after Wolves’ relegation, with Atletico Madrid long seen as favourites before interest cooled. Villa have stepped in as they seek midfield reinforcements following Youri Tielemans’ sale to Manchester United and Amadou Onana’s long-term injury.
Gomes has made 130 appearances in all competitions since joining from Flamengo in 2023. He is viewed as an ideal replacement for Onana and Villa’s business will not stop there.
They hope to finalise 20-year-old Switzerland international Johan Manzambi from Freiburg later on Friday and are in talks with Bayern Munich over a possible loan for Joao Palhinha.
Manzambi will replace Onana as Villa’s record buy in a deal set to exceed 30 million. Tielemans moved to United earlier this week for 35 million, while Lucas Digne is on course to join Paris Saint-Germain once he returns from World Cup duty with France.
Wolves are expected to be active as the season nears, with a replacement for Gomes a priority. Their summer signings so far are Kieran Trippier, Raul Jimenez and winger Rafiki Said.
