Wolves visit Maidenhead United on Wednesday, a landmark night for the National League South club and Cesar Peixoto’s first match in English football. The friendly stems from the Max Kilman transfer that bound the clubs two summers ago.

As reported by ExpressAndStar.com, Wolves committed to play at York Road after Maidenhead helped facilitate Kilman’s £40m move from Molineux to West Ham two years ago. For the hosts, it is their most prestigious pre-season friendly in recent times.

The Magpies had a sell-on clause of 20 percent of the profit from Kilman’s 2018 switch to Wolves for £40,000. They waived half to get the deal done, and the friendly was written into the agreement.

Maidenhead are believed to have received around £4m, regarded as the biggest sell-on fee earned by a non-league club. The windfall continues to underpin plans for the future.

Formed in 1870, Maidenhead were among 15 clubs to enter the first FA Cup. York Road is recognised as the oldest senior ground used continuously by the same club, though talks are ongoing over a new home.

In that transition, the Kilman money has been vital. "It was fantastically important," said chief executive Jon Adams, who also stressed the need to develop sustainably.

Wednesday’s game should deliver a further boost, with a crowd of more than 2,000 expected, including about 1,000 Wolves supporters. Adult tickets are £14, and Adams said the town is eager to welcome the visitors.
