West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes climbs to number one as Lewis Miley slips to second in this week’s Wonderkid Power Rankings. Sunderland Echo’s latest list highlights standout displays from several Premier League starlets, with Newcastle’s Lewis Hall surging into the top three.

Miley had led for three successive weeks, but a quieter spell at emergency right-back opened the door. Fernandes regains the crown for the second time this season after another energetic, effective display and a West Ham win.

Hall jumps to third, outstanding in the 2-0 EFL Cup defeat to Manchester City as he made two vital blocks and attacked on the overlap. Brentford’s Michael Kayode drops to fourth, bright going forward but culpable for the opener in a 2-0 loss to Chelsea. Manchester City’s Nico O’Reilly slips to fifth after being exposed one-on-one against Newcastle in the semi-final.

Abdukodir Khusanov rises to sixth. There were naive moments, including positioning for Bryan Mbeumo’s counter and an earlier chance, yet across the derby and the EFL Cup semi-final win over Newcastle he produced seven turnovers, five tackles, four interceptions and 15 clearances, plus calm distribution.

Adam Wharton sits seventh after an error-strewn outing against Sunderland, and he will age out of eligibility next month. New entry Charalampos Kostoulas is eighth, his overhead equaliser at Bournemouth following an assist against Burnley.

Wolves forward Mateus Mané is ninth, his own overhead brought a routine save and he failed with every dribble and lost all nine duels. Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi is 10th after a quiet 1-1 draw with Brighton that yielded only a blocked set-piece chance.

Manchester United defender Ayden Heaven drops out after being left out of Michael Carrick’s first starting line-up.
