World Cup 2026 (Q) – Algeria: Petkovic makes his decision on attacking trio against Somalia!
Just over 24 hours before the clash with Somalia, counting for matchday 9 of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Vladimir Petkovic has settled his choices up front. According to multiple local sources, the Algerian head coach has opted for a tried-and-tested trio: Riyad Mahrez on the right, Youcef Belaïli on the left, and Baghdad Bounedjah leading the line. This familiar combination, which has already proven its worth, is set to return as the Swiss tactician banks on chemistry and experience.
Algeria, currently topping their group, need just three points to secure their ticket to the next World Cup. The match will be played at the Miloud-Hadefi Stadium in Oran, where a packed crowd is expected. Somalia, already eliminated, have nothing to lose, meaning the Fennecs must stay focused and avoid any hint of complacency.
Petkovic wants to see a disciplined, clinical side, able to make the difference early on and avoid any unnecessary pressure. In terms of the standings, a win would be enough to book Algeria's place in North America in 2026—a qualification the nation has been waiting for over a decade.
