Nigeria faces a high-stakes challenge this Saturday, September 6, 2025. The Super Eagles host Rwanda in Uyo for Matchday 7 of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The Nigerians currently sit fourth with 7 points, while Rwanda holds third place with 8, trailing Benin, who now have 11 after their 1-0 win over Zimbabwe. South Africa leads the group with 13 points and appears to be pulling away. The pressure is immense on Nigeria.

After the disappointment of the 2022 World Cup, the country is at risk of another heartbreak. The defeat to Benin last year and the departure of Finidi George have left the team vulnerable. Eric Chelle, who took over since then, has yet to find the winning formula.

But Rwanda is hardly in a comfortable position either. The Amavubi boast a solid defense but lack the attacking firepower needed to aim higher. Their coach, Adel Amrouche, is banking on the memory of a major upset: the 2-1 victory in Uyo in 2023.

Nigeria must secure a win before heading to South Africa, while Rwanda is still chasing their dream. Godswill Akpabio Stadium is set to be on fire.
