As the group stage of the 2026 World Cup draws to a close, Group I sees Senegal face off with Iraq this evening – both nations are in desperate need of a victory in this final fixture.
With the action in Toronto set to get underway from 21:00 CET, this first-ever meeting ought to be a feisty one. Nothing less than a high-scoring win will give either side a chance of reaching the Round of 32.
Senegal, currently on a -3 goal difference compared to Iraq's -6, likely stand a greater chance. But with no points on the table yet, both teams may require results to go their way elsewhere to advance.
Interestingly, Bayern loanee Nicolas Jackson has lost his starting spot for Senegal while club mate Bara Sapoko Ndiaye also sits on the bench. There are starts for ex-Mainz and ex-Köln duo Moussa Diakhate and Ismail Jakobs.
Senegal (4-2-3-1): Diaw – Diatta, Seck, Niakhate, Jakobs – Gueye, Diarra – Mbaye, Camara, Mané – Sarr
Iraq (4-1-4-1): Basil – Putros, Hashim, Sulaka, Doski –Al Almmari – Jasmin, Bayesh, Iqbal, Quasem – Al Hamadi
