That’s when Doku was introduced, up against a tiring and stretched defence as the USA tried to find a route back in.

He, and the other raft of substitutes, kept things tight until Romelu Lukaku made it safe in added time.

Belgium will now face Rodri’s Spain in Los Angeles at 20:00 (UK) on Friday in the quarter-finals.
