Jamal Musiala’s injury is not only causing concern at FC Bayern, but is also raising questions about the upcoming World Cup. TV pundit Dietmar Hamann is now sounding the alarm – and believes the World Cup is a long way off for the attacking player
Following the joint decision by the DFB and FC Bayern not to nominate Musiala for the upcoming international matches, the focus is on his full recovery. The 23-year-old should be given the time he needs to return to top level after his recent setback
For Hamann, however, the situation is more explosive than it appears at first glance. In his Sky column, he made it clear: „I think the last thing he and Bayern are thinking about right now is the national team. In my eyes, the World Cup is a long way off for Musiala at the moment.“
Musiala is currently suffering from a pain reaction in his left ankle – the same foot that was seriously injured last summer. After his comeback in January, the playmaker had actually worked his way back before the next setback stopped him in his tracks
Hamann therefore believes that the decision not to nominate him is absolutely right: „It makes sense that he won’t be nominated for the two international matches at the end of March. You wouldn’t be doing him any favors if you invited him now.“
But the former international is already thinking one step ahead – and is looking ahead to the coming months with concern. „We’ll have to see whether it will be enough to take him to the World Cup. As things stand today, I think it will be difficult.“

A race against time now begins for Musiala. Hamann makes it clear what is important: „A lot has to happen in the next two months, nothing can go wrong. The foot has to be okay and the performance has to be right.“
So the route is clear: complete fitness, consistent performances and no further setbacks. Only under these conditions will a World Cup nomination be realistic
Meanwhile, the DFB is relying on close coordination with FC Bayern, with national coach Julian Nagelsmann emphasizing at the press conference: „Vincent Kompany and I have the same interest: that the player first gets fit and healthy at Bayern Munich.“
He also explained the decision not to nominate him as understandable: „Under the circumstances that he has problems, I decided against taking him along and letting him dribble for two minutes in pain. That’s no good.“
The priority is therefore clearly on the player’s long-term health, but one thing is equally clear: time is running out until the World Cup – and for Musiala it is now a matter of getting fully fit again as quickly as possible to keep his chances of making the tournament alive.
