Winning start for Yan Diomande! 🥳Yan Diomande and Côte d'Ivoire kicked off their World Cup group-stage campaign with a 1-0 win over Ecuador on Sunday night. The meeting between two of Germany’s group opponents was settled by Manchester United’s Amad Diallo, who struck in the second minute of stoppage time.
Yan initially caused problems down the right wing, where former Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapié struggled to contain him. He switched over to the left as the second half wore on and continued to pose a threat from there. FIFA named him the Player of the Match for his performance.
Next Saturday at 22:00 CEST, Yan and the Ivory Coast take on David Raum and Assan Ouédraogo's Germany side.
What a start for Germany! 💪Germany began their World Cup campaign in style, claiming a fully deserved 7-1 win over Curaçao in Houston and winning their opening game at the tournament for the first time since 2014.
Felix Nmecha gave Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann’s side an early lead, but the underdogs briefly stunned the favourites with an equaliser. The DFB-Team soon bounced back with goals from Nico Schlotterbeck and Kai Havertz making it 3-1 at half time, before really showing their dominance after the break in particular. Jamal Musiala extended the lead straight after the restart, while Nathaniel Brown added a fifth.
David Raum replaced the Frankfurt man at left-back in the 72nd minute and was on the pitch as Deniz Undav made it 6-1 and Havertz added Germany’s seventh. Assan Ouédraogo is still waiting for his first World Cup appearance.
