Colombia, who came into this encounter in full control of their destiny, put in a brilliant display against a tricky Portugal side to achieve a 0-0 draw. The result for Nestor Lorenzo's team means they march on as Group K winners, while the Portuguese advance as runners up.

This game took all of 30 seconds to advertise itself for what was to come as ex-Köln striker Jhon Cordoba steered his header just over the bar from a deflected Luis Díaz effort. Both teams unleashed a barrage of long range shots throughout the initial 15 minutes.

Cordoba's next involvement on 17 minutes forced Diogo Costa into a terrific save, while Jhon Arias watched his following effort get cleared off the goal-line. Portugal also had a fine opportunity when Cancelo found Bruno Fernandes who was kept out by Arias from close range.

Momentum in this breathless encounter continued to switch hands as Portugal's tempo faded before the break. Colombia's Gustavo Puerta fired down the throat of Costa before the FC Porto shot-stopper had to parry a James Rodriguez strike away to safety.

Roberto Martinez made one switch at the break, introducing Diogo Dalot for Cancelo. The full-back put in a fine ball, but Joao Felix headed wide. A couple of offside decisions went against Portugal thereafter as the scoreboard stayed gridlocked beyond the hour.

Colombian substitute Richard Rios almost made an instant impact with his first touch whistling past the post. Jhon Cordoba was at the centre of the action again with two shots -- the latter which deflected off Renato Veiga which prompted Costa to show his reflexes.

With both sides expending most of their energy, substitutes were in plentiful supply. Drama ensued late on as Davinson Sanchez latched onto a free-kick to convert, but VAR declared the centre-half offside – Colombia will take on Ghana as Portugal prepare for Croatia.
