Liverpool have submitted a stunning bid to sign Bradley Barcola.

Let's be honest, missing out on Yan Diomande was a major disappointment for Liverpool. Despite some suggestions to the contrary, the club were never choosing between him and Barcola. The plan was to sign both.

The profiles are completely different. Diomande is at his best on the right wing, making him the natural long-term successor to Mohamed Salah. Barcola, meanwhile, operates primarily from the left, so viewing him as an alternative to Diomande never really made sense.

Diomande was clearly Liverpool's priority to replace Salah. Barcola, on the other hand, appears to have been identified as the ideal option to strengthen the left flank, potentially succeeding Cody Gakpo while also offering versatility across the forward line.

Liverpool supporters were dreaming of another blockbuster summer similar to the one that brought both Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak to Anfield. That now looks unlikely, with not even Paris Saint-Germain but Real Madrid seemingly set to land Diomande instead, a deal that would undoubtedly suit the Spanish giants.

Even so, Barcola still remains a priority for Liverpool. He can play on the right-wing but he could also play on the left.

Richard Hughes appears willing to listen to offers for Gakpo, and Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as genuine contenders to sign the Dutch international.

There also seems to be a willingness on Gakpo's side to consider a fresh challenge if the right opportunity arrives. Should he leave, Liverpool have other right-wing options they could pursue, with Yankuba Minteh standing out as one of the most intriguing alternatives.

That said, there is little doubt that Barcola would still represent an outstanding signing.

His pace, creativity and ability to beat defenders one-on-one would add a different dimension to Liverpool's attack and make him an excellent fit for the next phase of the club's rebuild.

Iraola's football is built around speed, directness and intensity. His teams look to win the ball back quickly and attack before opponents have a chance to reset. That means wide players become absolutely crucial. They need to be quick enough to exploit space, brave enough to take defenders on and intelligent enough to make the right decisions in transition.

Barcola ticks every box.

Whether that's on the right on the left, it doesn't matter. Barcola is simply the perfect fit for Liverpool.

He clearly seems open to a move as well. Barcola recently rejected an opportunity to extend his contract at Paris Saint Germain and a move is very much on the table this summer.

Various reporters have now also claimed that if he were to move, Barcola's preference would be to join Liverpool.

So everything points in the right direction but obviously there's still a towering obstacle in PSG standing in Liverpool's way. The French champions will have no desire to sell. They are in a strong position but they don't hold all the cards.

Barcola is entering the final two years of his contract with the club. This is the last opportunity to sell him for a profit especially since he indicated that he doesn't want to extend his contract any further.

It's up to Liverpool now to pay the price, and it looks like the Reds are acting on it.

Hughes has reportedly submitted a stunning first offer to PSG. According to Achille Ash, Liverpool have submitted an offer of €105m + €15m in adds ons.

That is a total package of €120m which is a stunning first offer. Especially considering first offers are never accepted in football these days.

The chances are Liverpool will probably have to go higher. But at least they are making moves. This Barcola saga is one to keep a close eye on.
