Wrexham reached the FA Cup fifth round by beating Ipswich Town, leaving them one win from the quarter-finals. They will be in Monday’s draw.

Josh Windass’ ninth of the season settled it as Ipswich failed to register a shot on target after McKenna made 10 changes. According to NY Times, the draw will be made live on TNT while Wrexham are in Bristol preparing to face Bristol City at Ashton Gate the following night.

Ipswich, relegated from the Premier League last season, were third on Friday, Wrexham sixth and seven points back.

Phil Parkinson said they seized a chance to make a bit of history and to back up the Nottingham Forest win, adding it felt fitting in the week their owners marked five years at the club.

This is Wrexham’s first fifth-round appearance since February 1997, when Brian Flynn’s side won 3-1 at Birmingham City before a 1-0 quarter-final loss at Chesterfield.

Parkinson reckons the percentages favour a Premier League opponent and he would welcome another home tie after two already, though he called home or away a 50-50. He said hosting or visiting a big club would be a great occasion. With Chelsea through and only Manchester United out, a glamour tie may yet materialise if results follow form.

The sides meet again at Wrexham on Saturday, 21 February, for Championship points. McKenna said the Cup result will probably not affect that game, though the trip was useful and they now have a week to prepare.
