According to Sunderland Echo, Wrexham are exploring a deal for Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, with permanent and loan options on the table and a valuation around £7 million.

The Championship newcomers are said to be open to paying a fee, though they would prefer a straight loan or an initial loan containing an option or obligation to buy.

Patterson is expected to move on this summer after slipping behind Robin Roefs. The 26-year-old has returned to the Academy of Light and is training with the senior goalkeepers while his future is resolved.

Millwall want him back after a successful spell in the second half of last season. He joined in February having managed only one senior appearance for Sunderland earlier in the campaign.

The report added that Rangers have been discouraged by the asking price. Wolves have considered him but would likely need to offload a goalkeeper before making an approach.

An academy graduate, Patterson debuted in the EFL Trophy in 2020, became first choice in 2021-22 after a Notts County loan, and helped Sunderland beat Wycombe at Wembley in the League One play-offs. Three years later he made key saves against Sheffield United in a 2-1 Wembley win to reach the Premier League, before Roefs’ emergence led to his Millwall loan.
