Florian Wirtz was one of Liverpool's statement signings.

The German was expected to set the Premier League alight with his ability but, in reality, that's been far from the case.

Of course, there have been times when the attacker has been of use to Liverpool but at the moment, he's failed to live up to the £116 million that Liverpool spent on him.

He's still young and now that he has a season of Premier League football under his belt, he might be better off next term but, if Fichajes' recent report is to be believed, the Reds may not even get to experience that version of the German.

Xabi Alonso wants Wirtz

"Chelsea has activated its entire institutional machinery with the firm intention of securing the signing of German superstar Florian Wirtz," they wrote.

"This ambitious formal request stems directly from the tactical plan of their new manager, the Tolosa-born strategist Xabi Alonso.

"The Merseyside club is open to listening to formal offers if a suitable sum is received that recoups its original investment. The Stamford Bridge hierarchy is preparing an offer that promises to completely disrupt the salary structures of the English league.

"Chelsea have taken center stage in the summer transfer window by finalizing the return of the Tolosa-born manager on a four - year contract.

"The Blues' management are keen to provide strong support for their new leader's sporting vision by acquiring the German playmaker.

"The London club's technical staff is looking for a game-changing player who can inject fluidity into the team's passing game, electrifying attacking runs, and a significant goal-scoring record.

"Chelsea believes that reuniting the Basque manager with the 23-year-old attacking midfielder will be the definitive turning point in his career in England.

"Preliminary talks between the club's leadership aim to expedite a deal that will restore the team's former glory, which once captivated the Bundesliga."

Liverpool should only let Florian Wirtz go if they can earn a profit on him

Although it's highly unlikely for Wirtz to exit Anfield this summer, if he is moved on, Liverpool need to try a seek a profit on him.

At the moment, three of their first-team players are leaving for nothing and, if Wirtz is sold, they need to earn some sort of money back to try and reinvest in their squad.

Wirtz's transfer has obviously been a bit of a let down this season but, as mentioned, now that he's had a year in England, he could have adapted and could become a key player for the Reds next term.

A lot of Liverpool's woes have been due to the sheer number of injuries that they've suffered but all of their problems can't just be blamed on that.

Their lack of cohesion has mpacted the outcome of Liverpool's 2025-26 campaign and, if another full revamp occurs, they could end up the same as they are now or even worse.

No matter what happens, decisions need to be made quickly, if not, fans will have an awful lot of questions that will need to be answered one day or another.
