Xabi Alonso considers versatile Real Madrid midfielder key part of his project | OneFootball

Eduardo Camavinga is a name that has dominated the Real Madrid camp lately, especially after his impressive performance on the right flank against Barcelona.

The Frenchman has earned plaudits for his versatility and performances since returning from injury, which in turn, has come as a blessing for coach Xabi Alonso.

How Alonso views Camavinga at Real Madrid

According to AS, Alonso considers Camavinga a key part of his project. The Frenchman, in fact, has become the new focus of attention for the Basque coach.

When Alonso first took the reins of the Real Madrid bench, the young Frenchman was still sidelined, recovering from a serious injury suffered on April 23rd. He didn’t play his first minutes under the new coach until September 20 against Espanyol.

Since then, Alonso has carefully managed the French midfielder’s playing time. After so many months of inactivity, the coach opted for caution, giving him sporadic minutes.

His most significant appearance in that initial period came in the Madrid derby, where he played for just over half an hour.

However, after the last international break, everything seems to have changed. Camavinga has taken a step forward. Alonso believes the player is fully recovered and ready to take on more responsibility.

The coaching staff are incredibly satisfied with the way Camavinga is performing, which is reflected in his recent playing time. In Real Madrid’s last three matches, the Frenchman has accumulated 171 minutes.

His performance in El Clasico, in particular, was remarkable. He was the Real Madrid player with the most duels won (8), the second with the most completed dribbles (3, only surpassed by Vinicius’ five), and the third with the most touches of the ball (45).

Keeping that in mind, the Real Madrid camp is extremely happy with Camavinga and the player is expected to grow further from here on in.
