Xabi Alonso ‘ready to accept’ Liverpool offer | OneFootball

Xabi Alonso is ready to accept an approach Liverpool if the club decide to part company with Arne Slot.

Slot is under pressure at Anfield after a disappointing defence of the Premier League title. The Dutchman exceeded all expectations to win the title in his debut campaign but has struggled to replicate those performances in 2025-26.

Liverpool’s loss at Brighton last weekend made it 10 defeats in the Premier League this season, the club’s most in over a decade.

Alonso has been regularly mentioned as an option for Liverpool since his successful spell at Bayer Leverkusen.

The former Liverpool midfielder led Leverkusen to a first-ever German title, without losing a game, and was named as a top target to replace Jurgen Klopp, prior to Slot’s appointment in 2024.

Alonso is without a club after being sacked at Real Madrid in January, having only taken charge at the Bernabeu last summer.

However, reports in Germany claim ‘Liverpool have been intensifying their efforts to bring him in’, should results not improve under Slot across the run-in.

BILD claim that the 44-year-old is reportedly ready to take charge at Anfield in the summer, if an approach is made.
