German champions Bayer Leverkusen have joined the bidding for Espanyol star Joan García.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who have on Thursday provided an insight into the latest chatter surrounding the goalkeeper’s future.
García, for his part, has of course continued to make a name for himself as one of the standout players in all of Spanish football across the season to date.
Shining between the posts for Espanyol, the 23-year-old has racked up more saves than any other shot-stopper in La Liga (93).
Building on an equally impressive term in 2023/24, a number of top clubs have, in turn, begun sniffing around García’s signature.
Chief amongst them are Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, who also attempted to bring the Spaniard in last summer.
As per the aforementioned MD, though, this week, a new outfit have positioned themselves firmly in the race for García’s services, too:
‘As of today, the team that is moving the most for him, along with Arsenal, is Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen.’
The Bundesliga champions are understood to be on the lookout for reinforcements in goal with a view to next season, with García considered the ideal profile.
