RB Leipzig midfielder Xaver Schlager will be missing for several weeks due to suffering another injury with the national team.
Schlager has gained a muscle injury in his left thigh, which was the result of an MRI examination in Leipzig.
Marco Rose recently welcomed Schlager back to the Leipzig team after recovering from his second knee injury in ten months to play against Borussia Dortmund before the recent international fixtures but did not make an appearance from the bench in that match.
Instead, he was given some minutes from the bench in Austria’s 1-1 draw against Serbia in the Nations League 1st leg fixture, as he entered the pitch in the 77th minute.
This now seems to have been a return that was too soon for the midfielder.
“The new injury hits us very hard, especially Xaver himself” said Marcel Schäfer, RB Leipzig’s sporting director.
“He worked extremely hard for his comeback and gave everything to be able to help us with his qualities in the final spurt of the season.
“He was supposed to get his last match fitness with the national team, but now he is forced to take another break. We give Xaver all the support he needs now. Of course, it’s annoying that we have another injury to report after an international break.”
Schlager has made just four appearances in the Bundesliga this season and will be aiming for a return before the 2024/25 campaign comes to an end with just eight Bundesliga games remaining.
His team are also in the DFB-Pokal semi-final against Stuttgart next Wednesday, with the final taking place on 24th May, which Schlager could return for if recovery is successful.
