Netherlands international Xavi initially joined the Red Bulls on loan for the 2023/24 campaign and produced a series of stunning performances, scoring eight goal and providing 11 assists.
He subsequently returned to Leipzig on a temporary basis at the start of the new campaign, and while injuries have hampered his development, he has still managed three strikes and four assists in 11 league outings. The 21-year-old was set to return to Paris this summer, but Leipzig have now announced that he has signed for them permanently, putting pen to paper on a contract that will keep him at the club until June 2027.
Upon the announcement, Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schäfer said, "We’ve been working for a long time to make this transfer, which is a great one both in a sporting and financial sense, a reality. In the past few days, a door suddenly opened, and we were able to seize this opportunity. The deal is in line with our budgetary and transfer-related guidelines.
"We’re pleased to have the clarity of knowing that Xavi is now our player – we now hold all the trump cards. Xavi has come on leaps and bounds at our club and has shown that RB Leipzig is the right place for young, talented footballers. Our joint focus is now on achieving our targets in the second half of the season.”
Meanwhile, Xavi added: " I've always said that I feel extremely at home in Leipzig and that I'm honored by the appreciation shown towards me by the club. Over the coming weeks and months, I will be able to freely pursue our joint aims of qualifying for the Champions League for the seventh straight season, and of reaching the DFB-Pokal final in Berlin – those are the only things that matter right now!”

Xavi will next be in action on Saturday when Leipzig travel to Union Berlin on Matchday 20 as they aim for an important three points in their quest for UEFA Champions League qualification. The two-time DFB Cup winners are currently outside the top four on goal difference. They were elminated from this season's competition in the new league phase, but could yet end the season with further DFB Cup gold, with Bundesliga rivals Wolfsburg the opposition in the quarter-finals on 26 February.
