RB Leipzig have suffered a huge setback as they have announced that midfielder Xavi Simons will be out injured for several weeks due to ligament damage.
Simons suffered the injury in his left ankle last night as Leipzig lost 1-0 in their Champions League fixture against Liverpool.
The Dutchman was eventually substituted in the 73rd minute of the match after he attempted to continue playing with the initial damage.
He had to limp of the pitch after being supported by two Leipzig coaches.
“He’s twisted his ankle, he’s already in pain,” said Leipzig manager Marco Rose.
According to Sky Sports Germany information, there is likely potential that Simons will miss the rest of the year, and an operation may be needed.
RB Leipzig have stated that the treatment method is still being decided.
The 21-year-old has started every match in all competitions for Leipzig this season, scoring three goals and providing two assists in eleven games.
