Ruben Amorim and Manchester United’s director of football Jason Wilcox weren’t on the same page about many things, not least the club’s transfer strategy.
Heading into the winter transfer window, United prioritised strengthening their attack, approaching Bournemouth’s £65m-rated winger Antoine Semenyo over a January transfer.
Early today, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Amorim wanted to sign a midfielder this month whereas United’s plan was to address the area in the summer.
As per The Telegraph, Wilcox met with Amorim last Friday to discuss the evaluation of the team. But Amorim “blew up” when the subject of his system was raised. Eventually, United decided enough was enough.
With Amorim now out the door, Manchester United are reportedly looking to sign a new attacker after missing out on Semenyo.
United are among a host of clubs chasing RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, who is enjoying a stellar campaign in the Bundesliga.
The 19-year-old left-sided attacker, known for his explosive pace and dribbling, has six goals and three assists to his name in 14 league appearances for Leipzig this season.
Recently, Fabrizio Romano claimed that United must “break the bank” to win the transfer race for the Ivorian forward. Now, it is being suggested the Premier League giants are prepared to do just that.
According to Africa Foot (via Sport Witness), United recently held a meeting with Leipzig. It is understood they have offered €90m to sign Yan Diomande during the winter transfer window.
It is added that the Bundesliga outfit have given United permission to hold talks with their star forward regarding personal terms.
The Mancunians are allegedly offered a contract until 2030, worth €3.5m per year, to the 19-year-old.
Amad Diallo’s teammate is currently with the national team at AFCON. However, the final details of the operation is expected to be finalised before Ivory Coast’s run in the tournament.
With their move for Semenyo, United have underlined that they have the budget to recruit a high-profile player in January.
However, without a permanent manager in place, it is difficult to see INEOS splash a considerable figure this month.
