Plymouth Argyle recently completed the signing of Lorent Tolaj from Port Vale, raiding their League One rivals for their star player.
The Pilgrims triggered the Swiss striker's £1.2 million release clause last week and thrust their new addition straight into the starting 11 against Blackpool.
Despite not scoring, the 23-year-old played his part in Plymouth’s first victory of the season, with Malachi Boateng’s goal enough to dispatch the Seasiders.
Argyle were defeated in their first four League One games of the 2025/26 campaign, but look to be on the verge of turning things around following Tolaj’s arrival.
Football League World’s Plymouth Argyle fan pundit, Luke Hodge, believes that the Swiss forward will be an excellent addition for the Pilgrims.
“I think he's going to be a great signing for Argyle and I think at £1.2 million, that's a real coup,” Luke told FLW.
“He's only 23 years old and you can just tell that he works his socks off, he's strong, he will score goals, I don't doubt that.
“I think it's going to be a great signing for Argyle. It wouldn't surprise me if he ended up moving potentially on to bigger and better things in a couple of years if he continues his trajectory and how he's been playing.
"Port Vale fans were raving about him, gutted to lose him and thought he was worth far more than the £1.2 million release clause.
“I must admit it's only 90 minutes I've seen him, but you can just tell there's a player there. He looks hungry, he looks like he wants to succeed, and it was difficult for him today because he was kind of up there on his own, but he still gave the Blackpool defenders a tough time.
“A couple of centre-halves have just come through the door as well, and with another left of the transfer window, things are definitely looking a lot more positive and hopefully this will be the start of a bit of a run and the team can gel.
“The win over Blackpool wasn’t perfect by any means, but it was a clean sheet, it was three points and was deserved in the end. So, I'm pretty confident that Lorent Tolaj will be a really good player for us.”
After such a dreadful start to the campaign, supporters were beginning to seriously worry about what lay ahead for the Pilgrims.
One major area of concern was the club’s striking department and where goals were going to come from over the course of 46 games.
Tolaj’s signing has answered those questions and provided Argyle supporters with an exciting new talent to get behind.
At just 23 years of age, the striker still has lots of room to develop and could be a real source of danger for Plymouth throughout this term and in years to come.
