Aston Villa have been dealt a significant blow with confirmation that Youri Tielemans (28) is set to miss up to five weeks following a calf injury sustained during the goalless draw with Everton on September 13, The Athletic reports.
The Belgian midfielder has not featured in any of Villa’s six matches since and is expected to remain sidelined until mid-November. The injury compounds Villa’s midfield concerns, with Amadou Onana and Boubacar Kamara also having missed spells earlier in the season through hamstring issues.
Tielemans had started all four of Villa’s opening Premier League fixtures and remains a pivotal figure under Unai Emery. The former Leicester City man, who joined on a free transfer in 2023, has made 103 appearances for the club, contributing eight goals and 18 assists while earning last season’s Player of the Year award for his consistent excellence.
His absence is expected to be keenly felt, particularly given his ability to dictate tempo and progression from midfield — qualities that make him one of Villa’s most technically refined players. In his stead, Lamare Bogarde has impressed alongside John McGinn, while Onana’s return to fitness offers some respite.
Villa, unbeaten in their last four matches across all competitions, travel to Tottenham Hotspur on October 19. Emery will hope his side can sustain momentum during a testing run of fixtures without one of his most influential performers.
