Lazio captain Mattia Zaccagni faces at least a month out with a right thigh muscle injury sustained in Sunday’s win over AC Milan at the Stadio Olimpico, a setback for Italy ahead of next week’s crucial World Cup play-offs.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, scans show a grade two problem and he is likely to be sidelined for 30 to 40 days, meaning he could miss the decisive Coppa Italia second leg against Atalanta, viewed as Lazio’s biggest game of the season so far.

Maurizio Sarri must first prepare for Sunday’s Serie A trip to Bologna at the Stadio Dall’Ara, kick-off 15:00 CET.

Three attackers are in contention to deputise on the left. Pedro is currently favoured as the most natural fit in that role.

Tijjani Noslin is the first alternative, a versatile Dutchman who has also featured up front this season. The former Hellas Verona player is behind Daniel Maldini and Boulaye Dia in the pecking order, so he will hope to reclaim a starting berth on the left.

Matteo Cancellieri is the third option. The Italian is primarily an inverted right winger and has recently lost his starting spot to the in-form Gustav Isaksen.
