Zidane unveiled as France head coach on four-year deal | OneFootball

Zidane, 54, was officially unveiled on Tuesday as France head coach on a four-year contract, succeeding Didier Deschamps. He set out what he considers the ultimate challenge of his football journey.

At FFF headquarters in Paris, he began by sending support to firefighters and those in agriculture helping people in difficulty. He said he had waited four or five years for this day, and admitted he was emotional and excited.

He regarded the day as the high point of his coaching career. He added that he had rejected offers during those four or five years to hold out for the national job.

The handover took shape after January 2025, when Deschamps said he would not continue beyond the 2026 World Cup. Their first meeting came in February 2025, and the federation felt Zidane’s desire matched its needs.

On style, he offered few clues, saying supporters would see it soon. He stressed he is driven by the game, formed as a No 10, and wants his side to score goals.

He spoke of continuity in results, while making clear he will do things his own way. His debut is set for 25 September away to Türkiye in the Nations League group stage, and he said it is on him to keep this extraordinary team winning. The French public expect nothing else.
