Zuriko Davitashvili has been named Ligue 2 player of the season at the UNFP awards, the only Saint-Étienne player honoured.
He did not attend Monday night’s Paris ceremony, focusing on play-off preparation with ASSE ahead of Friday’s 20:30 match, according to Le Progres.
The 25-year-old Georgian is the division’s fourth top scorer with 14 goals and has supplied five assists. It is the best statistical campaign of his career.
Voted by his peers, the winger impressed Ligue 2 with his technical ability and direct running. In the same ballot, he was the only Saint-Étienne player in the team of the season, which featured four Troyes players and none from Le Mans.
ASSE captain Gautier Larsonneur was among five nominees for best goalkeeper but was not chosen this time. He previously won the prize two years ago, when Les Verts went up boasting the best defence in Ligue 2.
Best coach went to Stéphane Dumont of Troyes, while Rodez’s Quentin Braat took best goalkeeper. The team of the season was Braat, Gerogen, Monfray, Koné, Jean-Lambert, Mille, Bardelli, Adeline, Versini, Bentayeb, Davitashvili.
