The Danish boss is gone after less than a year in charge.

Norwich City have sacked manager Johannes Hoff Thorup following the club's 3-1 loss to Millwall on Easter Monday.

The Canaries have been trending in the wrong direction for some time now, with just one win in their last 10 games, which has also included six losses.

The once play-off hopefuls are now fourteenth in the division, just one point above Portsmouth, who had been battling relegation up until the start of the week.

In the statement which confirmed the Dane's departure, the club's sporting director, Ben Knapper, said: "Whilst we made this appointment with a long-term focus and in line with our wider club strategy and direction, unfortunately recent results and performances have deemed it necessary for us to make a change."

It's the season to sack your manager at the moment, with the likes of Southampton and West Bromwich Albion, plus potentially Cardiff City and Leicester City, all on the lookout for a new boss, so the Canaries may have to act quickly to get their desired candidate in.

Here are three people that Norwich should look to replace Hoff Thorup with.

Russell Martin

The Canaries fan and former player may divide opinion among his fellow Carrow Road faithful because of how miserably things were for him once he'd got Southampton back to the Premier League, but his work to get them promoted in the first place should still be given credit.

He has an extensive track record of playing possession-heavy football, and, at the Championship level, it's been proven to work.

Martin has always spoken highly of the club, even when his Southampton side faced them on a couple of occasions last season. It'd feel like a pretty natural fit.

Jack Wilshere

One other casualty from Hoff Thorup's sacking was assistant coach Glen Riddersholm. Another of the former boss' assistants, Jack Wilshere, however, has not been removed from his position and has now been made the interim head coach for the final two games of the season.

Wilshere was brought in by the Canaries in October from his position as head coach of the Arsenal under-18s side. He worked with Knapper for the Gunners, where Norwich's sporting director worked as the club's loan and pathway manager.

There is clearly an admiration and respect for one another. Wilshere knows the squad and the club already. If there is an uptick in results in these final couple of games, against Middlesbrough and Cardiff, then he could be a candidate that they seriously consider.

Steve Cooper

Steve Cooper is the most proven entity of the three on this list. The ex-Leicester City, Nottingham Forest and Swansea City manager has won promotion once before from the Championship and has taken teams to the play-offs on other occasions too.

He has been out of work since Leicester sacked him in November and, after struggling in the Premier League, a return to the second tier would feel like a natural move for the Welshman to make.

Norwich have ambitions to make a return to the English top flight sooner rather than later. Cooper knows how to get that done, and may not require as much financial backing in order to get there as a Martin would, or be as risky as the inexperienced Wilshere.
