Saturday’s match ended Newcastle 1 Wolves 0.

Ahead of each match we ask one of our writers to come up with three positives and three negatives following the game.

Plenty to talk about after this one.

On this occasion it is ‘Matt Busby said to Joe Harvey…’:

POSITIVES

First win

It was vitally important that we got all three points today.

Not pretty, but we did enough against a spirited Wolves side who took the game to us early on and at times made it difficult.

Woltemade Ole, Ole, Ole

Great to see big Nick get off the mark.

Scoring the winning goal on your debut must be a mixture of elation and relief.

I thought he looked tidy until running out of steam just after the hour mark.

I also saw him on Sky Sports News half an hour after the match concluded and he came across really well.

Barcelona up next

Now only five days before the Spanish champions roll into town.

We need to play better, that’s for sure. It’ll be really special under the lights on Thursday evening.

NEGATIVES

Is Trippier’s time up?

I thought Kieran Trippier was poor today, errant passes galore and caught out of position too much for my liking.

Probably one of our greatest signings in the takeover era and I thought he was MOTM at Wembley, but sadly, he now looks a shadow of his former self.

Strength in depth?

Much has been made of our squad depth but it didn’t feel like that when Osula and Willock entered the fray this afternoon, replacing Woltemade and Joelinton on 65 minutes.

We need Wissa and Ramsey off the treatment table pronto.

Anxious end game!

My anxiety levels increased during the last quarter of an hour.

We looked disjointed and failed to keep the ball, allowing Wolves to dominate possession and although they didn’t create anything of real note, a better side would have done.
