Hayters TV caught up with Benoit Badiashile after full time in today’s Chelsea’s Champions League win over Benifca in the Champions League, and the subject of Estevao Willian came up.
The Brazilian wonderkid came on in the second half and the mood notably lifted for him. Badiashile was asked for his thoughts on the rising star:
“Estevao is a magic player. He will make a big difference us in the next few years and we’re really happy to have him here.”
The winger completed 3 dribbles and had 0.58 xG in 40 minutes on the pitch. As ever he looked to take players on and make things happen. The crowd responded and it helped keep Benfica from really taking over the game. It was just the sort of threat we needed at a moment where things could have got delicate.

Enzo Maresca mentioned Estevao positively in an interview last week:
“You need Cole Palmer, Estevao or players in some moments who can decide games the way they do.”
Palmer is injured, so it’s all down to Estevao here. Chelsea are so laboured at times in attack without Palmer, and Estevao’s introduction gave them far more unpredictability. He’s sure to start on Saturday in a new career high for him in many ways – the chance to take on Liverpool in the Premier League with the eyes of the world on him.
A Champions League bow at the Bridge isn’t a bad way to warm up for that. He did well but kept plenty of freshness in his legs for the weekend.
Imagine he scores two against the Reds this weekend – can’t you just see him announcing himself at the top level like that one day? Like Benoit says, he’s magic.
