Sunderland have reached 40 points, allowing focus to turn to summer recruitment and six in-form options across Europe. Sunderland Echo notes the Black Cats could now refine targets for Regis Le Bris’ squad.
The milestone came via a Habib Diarra penalty in a narrow midweek win at Leeds United. Safety is not confirmed, but they are four points behind seventh-placed Brentford.
Last summer brought Granit Xhaka, Omar Alderete and Robin Roefs. This window is unlikely to be as busy, yet key areas still need attention with just under three months until it opens.
Charlie Cresswell has impressed at Toulouse since 2024, with eight goals in 60 games and a deal to 2028, and has been linked with West Ham. Joaquín Panichelli left Alaves for Strasbourg last summer and has 17 in 35.
Strasbourg’s Guéla Doué, an Ivory Coast wing-back, has two goals and six assists in 25 outings. Luka Vuskovic, on loan at Hamburg from Tottenham Hotspur, has five in 24 and his parent club’s relegation fight could offer an opportunity.
Wouter Burger has flourished at Hoffenheim after an underwhelming Stoke spell, producing five goals and nine assists in 24 matches. Rodrigo Zalazar, capped seven times by Uruguay, has 21 goals and six assists in 38 for fourth-placed Braga behind Sporting CP, Benfica and Porto, and appears prime for a Premier League move.
