Ajax have reportedly initiated a major move in an effort to thwart Manchester United’s pursuit of highly-rated defensive prospect Aaron Bouwman.

United eyeing Bouwman

Since Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s partial takeover, United have stepped up their scouting and recruitment of young talents with the potential to develop into world-class players.

More recently, The Peoples Person covered a report which claimed that United have an interest in Ajax duo Bouwman and Jorthy Mokio.

It was stated that the likes of Chelsea, Barcelona, Liverpool and Manchester City are also admirers of Bouwman, who made his debut for the Ajax senior team last month, coming on in an Eredivisie clash against SC Telstar.

Strong, quick, and assured in possession, Bouwman also reads the game superbly, making him the perfect example of the kind of modern defender top clubs are constantly chasing.

As United and other suitors circle around the 18-year-old, TEAMtalk reveal that Ajax have opened discussions with the player and his representatives over a new deal.

Ajax looking to ward off interest in Bouwman

TEAMtalk reveal, “Ajax, aware of his skyrocketing potential, are keen to extend Bouwman’s contract, set to expire in 2027 and have begun talks.”

A source told the news outlet, “He’s one of the brightest talents at the club. The board believes he can reach the very top.”

TEAMtalk describe Bouwman as a “potential world-class talent” with the capability to “anchor defences at the highest level.”

Speaking to Ajax club media in July, Bouwman divulged that he harbours dreams of playing in the Premier League in future – a factor that may work in United’s favour if they intend to act on their interest.

The teenager said, “The top four of the Premier League is my ultimate dream, although playing at the top in Spain or another major footballing country would also be amazing.”

Unfortunately for the Red Devils, he named Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk as his football idol. But by his own admission, he doesn’t seem entirely set on Liverpool.
