Aasgaard To Start? | Predicted 4-3-3 Rangers Lineup To Face Aberdeen

Despite climbing up the league ladder and competing with Hearts and Celtic for the coveted Premiership crown, Rangers boss Danny Rohl is hopeful of snapping up Tuur Rommens and Tochi Chukwuani before clashing heads with Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Sunday evening. They secured a comprehensive 2-0 midweek win against the Dons at Ibrox; however, a setback on the road could be a significant blow, with the race being open amid the Jambos mixed run of results and the Hoops dreadful losing streak during the festive season.

Aberdeen survived a catastrophic start, but are now struggling for results once again with five defeats and one draw in their last six outings across competitions. But their strong home run in the league is a silver lining, as the only home fixture during this tenure earned them a solitary point following their 1-1 draw with Dundee United.

Defence

Jack Butland is in majestic form, having helped Rangers clinch four successive league wins since his howler against Hearts. The veteran Englishman must deliver another resolute performance as he might find himself busier than in their Ibrox encounter.

Emmanuel Fernandez has been a revelation, as he has already netted five times, including the early opener against the Dons. He is irreplaceable in deep defence and is expected to be lined up alongside John Souttar amid Derek Cornelius’ injury absence. Skipper James Tavernier and Jayden Meghoma should keep their place as the fullback pair, with versatile Dujon Sterling and Max Aarons likely to be involved as the second-half substitutes. Burkina Faso has been eliminated by the Ivory Coast from the AFCON Round of 16. But the club have yet to confirm the availability of Nasser Djiga, who missed the last few games due to international commitments.

Midfield

After setting up both their goals on Tuesday, high-flying Connor Barron is now ruled out for months after sustaining a knee ligament injury. Lyall Cameron, Joe Rothwell and Kieran Dowell are waiting for opportunities. Still, the gaffer should rely on Mohamed Diomande and Thelo Aasgaard as the box-to-box options, allowing Nicolas Raskin to slot in and dictate the tempo from the base as a deep-lying playmaker. Chukwuani could be introduced at some point if the midfield prospect gets registered on time for the Aberdeen game.

Attack

The attackers are finally finding their feet after a difficult few months since their summer arrival. Youssef Chermiti, in particular, has turned things around, having netted a brace against Celtic, and the Portuguese ‘number 9’ should be accompanied by Djeidi Gassama and Mikey Moore from the flanks, with Bojan Miovski and Danilo could be involved as ‘super subs’.
